Learning Circle 9

Welcome to the Learning Circle! In this worldwide classroom, we will discover together that children have rights that should apply everywhere in the world.

The right to a safe and loving home, where you can go to a good school, the right to live in a safe community where there is freedom to follow your dreams and much more... to be able to have a good and happy life.

In 1989, the United Nations set up The Convention on the Rights of the Child. During this convention, 195 countries made the agreement that children's rights should apply whenever and wherever, but this isn't as simple as it might seem.
Luckily, more and more people find it important to fight for the rights of children. You can do that too, by raising awareness and showing that every child deserves a good future.

In this Learning Circle, you can share your experiences, stories and opinions. We invite you all to learn and work together to make the world a better place.

Phase 3 - Challenge 2

April 4 - May 8   2016

NEWSLETTER Monday April 18 (week 11)

Dear participants,

In this newsletter, we ask your special attention for the individual task for students in Circles 4 - 12.

This assignment runs partly parallel with Challenge 2, in which you work as a group (see sidebar to find information in the peerScholar page).

All students in the Learning Circles have the opportunity to write a letter to the jury of the Global Teenager Project (in peerScholar.com)
to speak up and make their voices heard by many. Students can use the login name and password their teacher gave them, and start writing the letter at school or at home.

Experiences from previous years show that it's very interesting and exciting for students to give and receive feedback and to work directly with three unknown students from the Learning Circles; whose letters will you assess, and which students from which country is reading yours? What a great opportunity to share your thoughts about children's rights with three participants from different countries!

Teachers are receiving an email on Monday April 18th, with the link to a document with user names and passwords for their students and their own logins for peerScholar.com. All teachers can track the progress of their students and read the written letters and feedback.

Also a kind request to use the feedback schedule this week; The other participants really appreciate it if you give them the attention they deserve ...

Thanks for your cooperation and good luck!

A school for Nepal

All children are entitled to education in a safe school.

During the Learning Circle we will discover the current state of the Rights of the Child; and we can also DO something ourselves to improve the living conditions of our peers.

The building team of Maya Foundation, with Dutch and Nepalese builders need our help. You may want to think with your classmates and friends how you can contribute to the rebuilding of this school. You will get to know about the school and some of the students in the wiki. As an optional activity you may want to help by taking action and organize some fundraising to help Sajita, Bikash and Birsha get back their school. Every little bit helps!

We are looking forward to see your ideas in the 'Nepal Wiki'.
